My first introduction to electronic and techno music was almost a decade ago at a Lady Starlight performance. It was a significant moment for me, opening the door to this fascinating world of sounds. Lady Starlight was the supporting act during my first Lady Gaga concert in 2014 during her artRAVE: ARTPOP Ball Tour at Prague’s O2 Arena. As a 13-year-old pop music fan who had never explored other genres, I initially hesitated to watch Lady Starlight’s performance because I was eager to see my favourite artist. However, her performance piqued my interest in discovering music from the electronic or techno genre.
Speedy & Steve Live create a musical experience that truly engages the senses. Their soundscapes are a study in contrasts, ranging from deep, resonating basses to mesmerising melodies that lead the listener into a trance-like state, all underpinned by sharp, dynamic beats that make the heart race. These two Dutch legends are masters at forming a symphony of sounds that take the listener through different emotions and states of mind. Their debut set at FOLD was a true exploration of techno history, blending classic and contemporary sounds that honour the genre’s roots and point to its future direction.
Lady Starlight’s music is an accurate tale with unexpected twists and turns. Her pulsating rhythms resemble the heart’s beating, while her cosmic melodies transport us to other dimensions. The raw and mechanical beats remind us of the roots of techno. Her first performance at FOLD took us on a journey through a techno galaxy, where every planet had a different sound, emotion, and story to tell.
Lockhart teamed up with Nakamo, and BRASS TRAXX paired up with Mindbreak to complete the evening, delivering a wild performance full of energy and rhythm. Their music seamlessly blended in a natural mosaic of sounds, with each piece and note perfectly placed and meaningful. It was a true pleasure for the ears, reminding them how important the chemistry between artists on stage can be.
The night at FOLD, organised by InterChange, was a true paradise for all techno enthusiasts. It provided an opportunity to enjoy incredible live music and meet like-minded individuals who share the same passion. This review is specifically for techno lovers, as FOLD offers unique events that attract genuine fans.
